Yorktown Seeks Counselors for Summer Camps
May 5, 2023 – The Town’s summer camp program needs 20 counselors to eliminate a waiting list of 160 children.
The paid counselor jobs are for half-day and full-day camps run by the Department of Parks & Recreation. Camp staff are expected to accompany and engage campers in all activities and will be required to accompany campers into the pool during swimming sessions.
“The more camp counselors that we have, the more children we can have join our camps,” said Supervisor Tom Diana. “We must have one counselor for every eight children.”
The camp hours are from 8 a.m. to noon for half-day camps and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for full-day camps. Applicants must be 16 years of age by June 26, 2023. The deadline to apply for the camp jobs is May 19.
“We would gladly take a senior or someone who is retired and wants to give back to the community,” said parks Superintendent James Martorano, Jr. “Every person that steps forward to work allows us to take eight more kids off of that wait list.”
Yorktown’s seasonal employment opportunities are posted on the Town’s website.
