Enhanced STAR Exemption & Income Verification Program
The STAR exemption program is closed to new applicants. This form is primarily for use by property owners with Basic STAR exemptions who wish to apply and are eligible for the Enhanced STAR exemption. If you are a new homeowner or first-time STAR applicant, you may be eligible for the STAR credit. Register with NYS Tax Department at http://www.tax.ny.gov/star
To be eligible for the Enhanced STAR program:
- You must be 65 years (or turning 65 during the calendar year) or older
- Must be your primary residence
- Adjusted gross income on 2022 income taxes must be $98,700 or
less
To apply for the Enhanced STAR exemption (for those who currently have Basic STAR exemption) please provide the following documents at time of application:
- Completed Enhanced STAR Exemption Application https://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/orpts/rp425e_fill_in.pdf
- Income Verification Program Application https://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/orpts/rp425ivp_fill_in.pdf
- Proof of Age (Driver's License, Birth Certificate)
- Proof of Residencey (Driver's License or 2 utility bills showing mailing and service address. Landline phone, cable or electric bills are acceptable)
- 2022 Federal Income Tax Return (signed and dated)
- If you do not file Income Tax Returns, provide the RP-425-Wkst accompanying 1099s (year end statements) https://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/orpts/rp425worksheet_fill_in.pdf
All exemption applications must be filed by taxable status date, May 1.
