Tree Commission Events

The Tree Conservation Advisory Commission helps the Planning Department plan an annual Arbor Day ceremony that is celebrated the last Friday in April with a tree planting event. These trees are grown at the Willow Park Tree Nursery, located at Curry Street and Tulip Drive. The Tree Nursery was started by the Tree Commission as a way to have a supply of trees growing that could be used to replace or add to town properties and for town projects. Yorktown Tree Nursery Produces New Trees for Parks

November 6, 2024—An environmental restoration initiative is bringing young trees to Yorktown’s parks.

Parks workers planted some of the young trees in Downing Park on Friday morning. The trees come from Yorktown’s tree bank of more than 200 trees. The tree bank was created in 2021 at Willow Park.

Tree Nursey Gets 100 New Plantings

November 21, 2024 - On Saturday, November 2nd, members of the Tree Conservation Advisory Commission and the community met at Willow Park to plant 100 5-gallon shrubs donated to the Town by Valta Energy, the developer of Foothill Solar project, a part of their mitigation plan. Valta also paid $44,276 to the Tree Bank Fund and removed invasive species and planted 128 trees & 950 5-gallon shrubs on a 6.5 acre portion of the site along Lockwood Street.
