Yorktown Participates in Read Across America Day
Yorktown officials visited the John C. Hart Memorial Library to participate in Read Across America Day.
Supervisor Tom Diana was joined by police Chief Robert Noble and Assemblyman Matt Slater. All three read books to about a dozen children on March 2.
“Reading to a child is a heartwarming experience for adults and a learning opportunity for children, whose growing brains are stimulated by words and stories,” said Supervisor Diana. “Taking time to read with a child is one of the most important lessons that parents can share with their kids.”
The annual event by the National Education Association (NEA) celebrates reading and children’s literacy by inviting local community leaders into libraries and schools to read children’s stories aloud. The NEA estimates that last year almost 45 million children and adults celebrated the joy of reading on Read Across America Day.
