Con Edison Gomer Street Project
Detours are established when needed. There is never a time when the road is completely closed both ways and after tomorrow there should never be a time when one lane is closed without a detour. If this has happened, it was only for a few minutes for moving pipe due to the safety of all around the area. In that event, some vehicles did not want to wait the few minutes, so they decided to turn around which was an inconvenience for them. Con Ed will continue to consult with Yorktown PD regarding the detours so that they can alert the public to minimize this inconvenience. All residents in between the work area are able to come and go without inconvenience. At no point will Gomer Street be completely shut down for more than a brief moment.
Detours moving forward:
Today
Southbound traffic will be detoured at Cording down Hickory to Granite Springs Rd.
Northbound traffic open on Gomer entirely
Friday, June 8
Southbound traffic will be detoured at Cording and down Hickory again to Granite Springs Rd.
Northbound will have to be closed at Granite Springs. There will only be a “ Road closed” sign by Granite Springs Rd and another one further north to let vehicles know there is no through traffic going northbound. In the event that vehicles disregard those signs, then they will be met at Homestead by an officer who will direct them up Homestead and down Farm Walk Rd back towards Granite Springs. That is the extent of the inconvenience that residents will experience. If they adhere to the signs, then it will not be an inconvenience.
Saturday, June 9
Southbound traffic will be detoured at London going West and down Quinlan towards Granite Springs Rd
Northbound traffic will be open on Gomer
Monday until further notice
Southbound traffic will be detoured at Cording and down Hickory to Granite Springs Rd
Northbound traffic to remain open on Gomer
Gomer Street Deli Concern:
No work is proposed near the deli at the current time and will not be this year. When they are getting closer to that business, they have stated that they will work with the deli and so that there is limited to no interruption to this business.
