The Advisory Committee on Open Space (ACOS) is a multi-disciplinary committee which assists and advises the Town Board and Planning Board in carrying out the goals of the Town's Comprehensive Plan, and in functioning as the Town's Open Space ombudsmen.
The ACOS is to identify open space opportunities, form tactical plans to preserve open space, and, in conjunction with the Conservation Board, coordinate the Town's implementation activities.
Specific activities include:
- Develop an Open Space Preservation Plan which identifies critical areas or patterns of open space which should be protected and extended.
- Develop specific open space opportunities that are necessary to fulfill the plan.
- The Plan shall be based on the Town's Comprehensive Plan, and be accomplished in consultation with the Town Board, the Planning Board, the Conservation Board and other appropriate boards.
- Enhance community awareness concerning the protection and extension of open space by giving information on legal mechanisms for preservation and on the role of the Town government and other organizations in facilitating open space preservation.
- Recommend strategies and actions to the Town Board and the Planning Board which will further the Open Space Preservation Plan.
