CoCo Farms Opens in Yorktown

A new CoCo Farms service station opened Wednesday at a prominent commercial property near one of the gateways to Yorktown.

The CoCo Farms service station on the corner of Route 6 and Barger Street in Shrub Oak is one of 12 outlets the Elmsford-based company operates throughout the Lower Hudson Valley. Hani Sadallah founded CoCo Farms as a convenience store offering food, beverages, lottery, snacks, and fuel in a safe, clean, and friendly atmosphere. The store will be open 24 hours a day.

“We make sandwiches to go…we have Colombian coffee that is roasted to the CoCo Farms brand’s (specifications),” said Sadallah. “Please come in. You will find the best customer service.”

The former Getty station closed in 2016; recently the building was an auto body shop.

“This is the type of smart reuse and redevelopment that is at the core of our economic development plan for Yorktown,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “We need to continue to revitalize these existing sites to eliminate blight, put properties back on the tax roll, create jobs and ease the burden on local property taxpayers.”

The CoCo Farms, whose address is 3700 Barger Street, includes a 2,000-square-foot traditional-style building, four double-sided fuel pump islands and attractive landscaping.

“I want to thank this team that has worked with the Town of Yorktown so well. There wasn’t a problem throughout this whole process that they didn’t tackle,” said Councilman Tom Diana. “This is a big accomplishment for the gateway to Shrub Oak…Prior to this we had a gas station here that was basically falling in on itself.”

The CoCo Farms project is one of many local renewal projects completed, underway or planned for empty buildings and lots in locations across Yorktown including:

In November the Planning Board approved the redevelopment of the former Taconic Kia into a school bus dealership.

In January, Oster Properties of Englewood Cliffs, N.J. unveiled concepts for a residential-retail complex at the Yorktown Green shopping center that would include the demolition of an empty Kmart and re-tenanting the long vacant Food Emporium supermarket.

Also, in January, the Town Board approved a flex-space use for a lot at 1600 Front St. that will allow the construction of a research and development facility for green technology by SK Energy Holdings.

Last year Nestle Waters converted a former Verizon building at 3775 Crompond Road (Route 202) into a distribution center and offices bringing some 60 jobs.
