Developer Clears Trees in Preparation for Residential Construction
April 7, 2023 – A multi-family residential complex has begun construction at 2040 Crompond Road with the removal of trees and the demolition of an old house.
Boniello Development will build 23 townhouses in four buildings on the 2.6-acre property formerly owned by the Laura A. Weyant Revocable Living Trust. The project has received all the necessary permits and approvals to begin work.
“This has been vetted very carefully through several administrations,” said Supervisor Tom Diana.
The demolition work at the site includes the removal of 178 trees, which will be replaced after the townhouses are built. The landscaping plan for the property calls for the planting of 184 trees such as Serbian spruce, northern cedar, and sugar maple. The new landscaping will also include 118 shrubs and 60 perennials throughout the property and along the perimeter.
Supervisor Diana said the concerns about tree removal at the former Weyant property were similar to the concerns voiced about the redevelopment of the former Murphy’s Restaurant at 355 Kear St. that resulted in an attractive, treelined streetscape anchored by a new retail/office building.
