COVID Update
From the Desk of Supervisor Matt Slater:
Today's active count stands at 37. Needless to say, despite consistent reminders to our residents about the need to wear a mask, practice social distancing and proper washing of hands we end this week with a net increase of 9 active cases.
Recent news should act as a stern reminder that this virus has not been defeated. We have seen it cripple our federal government, shift our local schools to remote learning and jolt our county government. This week Governor Cuomo took swift action in hotspot zip codes to mitigate the spread of COVID.
We must take this seriously and refocus our efforts.
Since this pandemic has started the Town of Yorktown has followed the science and provided verified and accurate information to help our residents make the best decisions for themselves, their loved ones and our community.
Yes, there are factors such as college students that somewhat inflate our counts but the numbers this week show greater vigilance and caution is clearly needed. The last thing anyone wants is to see the closure of our schools, businesses and a return to mandated social restrictions as we are seeing the State mandate in hotspot zip codes.
I remain in constant contact with the County's Health Department. On Tuesday, I will host a community update with the President of Hudson Valley Hospital Center Stacey Petrower at 12:30PM.
Be smart. Wear a mask. Take this seriously.
Thanks,
Matt Slater
