DISCOLORED WATER NOTICE - DECEMBER 7, 2016
The Northern Westchester Work Works' (NWJWW) Amawalk Treatment Plant was placed back online after having been off for repairs. Whenever one of the two treatment plants is offline & then comes back online (mixing the two waters) discolored water may & often does occur. After a day or so of operating, the NWJWW had again shut it off for a short period. This is the reason for your discolored water. The NWJWW has been working to correct the situation and water clarity readings have improved since the week of November 28, 2016. The Yorktown Water District performs bacteria tests each day of the workweek. Additional testing was done when we received calls regarding discolored water. The water was and continues to be safe to drink. We expect our water quality to return to it's same high quality as things settle down in the distribution system. Once this is achieved, please flush your cold water again.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Should you have further questions, please contact the Water Department at 914-245-6111 or our water distributor NWJWW at 914-788-3400.
Thank you for your cooperation.
