DISCOLORED WATER NOTICE - NOVEMBER 2, 2018
On the evening of November 1, 2018, Northern Westchester Joint Water Works (NWJWW) had to open the inter-connect to supply the Catskill tank with Amawalk water. Peekskill had a break on their raw water line which resulted in NWJWW abruptly shutting down its Campfield source water pumps. This resulted in NWJWW having to ramp Amawalk up to meet the demand. Since this inter-connect has not been activated in a long time and they basically reversed flow in the 24” main, they effectively scoured the line which resulted in higher than normal turbidity. Things are returning to normal. This will have an impact on the Western side of Yorktown, Cortlandt and MID. Residents may experience some discoloration of water. The Yorktown Water District crew is currently flushing fire hydrants to help resolve the water issue. Please run your cold water to help clear the discoloration.
Thank you for your cooperation.
