Yorktown Seeks Tax Payment Deadline Extension
03/31/20 - Today Supervisor Matt Slater asked Gov. Andrew Cuomo to order a deadline extension for the payment of local taxes.
Several towns in Westchester County, including Yorktown, are required to collect town and county property taxes by April 30. Local municipalities are precluded by law from extending the tax deadlines or waiving late fees and penalties. Such action can be accomplished through an executive order by Governor Cuomo.
“The impending April 30th date for property tax payments is weighing heavily on collective minds of local families,” Supervisor Slater wrote in his letter to Governor Cuomo. “As with the filing date extension for both New York State and federal income taxes, I believe the same flexibility should be afforded to property taxpayers in Yorktown and other similarly situated municipalities. With 105 confirmed COVID-19 cases in our Town and nearly 10,000 countywide, Yorktown residents are focused on the safety and security of their family and neighbors.”
