Yorktown Shopping Center to Welcome National Retailers
March 28, 2024 – Three national retailers will move into the defunct Kmart store at the Yorktown Green Shopping Center.
T.J. Maxx, Michael's, and Five Below will bring new vitality to the empty big box store at 335 Downing Drive. The shopping center began its revival in 2022 when Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace moved into a former supermarket space that had been vacant for 10 years.
Yorktown Green is not the only retail center expecting new store openings. A Mr. Softee and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs is expected to open on April 1 in the former Subway space at 1992 Commerce Street, and a Crumbl Cookies bakery is preparing to open near the BJ’s Wholesale Club on Crompond Road.
“The Town Board has made every effort to facilitate a renaissance for this vital property in the center of Yorktown Heights’ business district, and we will soon see the results of our work,” said Deputy Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “We will continue our economic development work by focusing on other local shopping centers that require reimagination.”
T.J. Maxx is a department store with more than 1,000 locations nationwide. It is known for deals on fashion and home goods. Michael's is an arts and crafts retailer with more than 1,200 stores in North America. Five Below is a specialty discount store with about 1,500 locations nationwide that prices most of its products at $5 or less.
"We are thrilled to welcome T.J.Maxx, Michael's, and Five Below to the Yorktown Heights Green Shopping Center," said Eden Kongoli, Vice President of Oster Properties. "These new stores will not only enrich our retail offerings but also contribute to the vitality and vibrancy of our community. We look forward to providing an exceptional shopping experience for all our visitors."
Oster Properties has not announced opening dates for the stores. The company has a request before the Yorktown Planning Board for alterations to the former Kmart.
