Scared by the Sound Returns to Yorktown this Friday
October 3, 2024 – Scared by the Sound, a hair-raising Halloween attraction, returns to Yorktown for its third year on Friday.
The haunted netherworld features a series of highly detailed Halloween-themed scenes and offers an unforgettable experience that lasts approximately 17-18 minutes. Located at 380 Downing Drive, this indoor walk-through haunted house is designed to bring guests face-to-face with their worst phobias.
“We are thrilled to have Scared by the Sound return to Yorktown,” said Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “This haunted house is not only a fun and exciting attraction, but it’s also an important driver for local businesses and restaurants, bringing thousands of visitors to our community. It’s great to see the positive economic impact it has on Yorktown.”
Scared by the Sound started 23 years ago at Rye Playland, and it has become a holiday tradition. New elements this year are a haunted bayou, witches and wolves and a “doctor will see you now” rooms.
“We’re heavy with the actors. We’re heavy with the realism,” said Patrick Costello of Scared by the Sound. “We have a haunted wine cellar, for example. Instead of using fake props, we have over 4,000 real wine bottles on display. Same thing for the library. Instead of plastic books, we have over 4,000 real books.”
Scared by the Sound is expected to draw 5,000 to 6,000 visitors this season, depending on weather. To reduce wait times, tickets are sold based on timed entry, but wait times may still vary, especially on weekends closer to Halloween. The attraction is not recommended for children under 11.
Scared by the Sound runs on weekend nights throughout October, with additional dates on November 1st and 2nd. Operating hours are from 8 p.m. to 11 on Fridays; 7 p.m. to 11 on Saturdays; and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
