Yorktown Announces Arbor Day Poster Contest Winners
(May 3, 2022) - The winners of the 2022 Arbor Day Poster Design Contest are Stephanie Marello and Sara Stevenson.
Supervisor Matt Slater and other Town officials announced the winners during the 12th annual Arbor Day Ceremony at Town Hall on Friday. The contest was open to all fourth- and fifth-grade students, whose submissions depicted how trees invite the artists outside and help them connect with nature.
“The Town of Yorktown is known for its open spaces and environmental stewardship,” Supervisor Slater told students from the Crompond Elementary School. “I think it’s great that we can hear from our youth of our community. If you listen to them and see their posters, you see how important the environment is to them because they will be inheriting what we are leaving them.”
Other contest winners are:
- Isabella Santelli
- Greta Graham
- Eva Mendez
- Imogen McGill-Dial
- Tanya Risbud
“You all are winners for being stewards to our trees,” Councilman Tom Diana told the students. “It’s what we’re going to leave you guys that matters most.”
After the ceremony, the students and members of Girl Scout Troop 2277 planted a tree to commemorate the event.
“It’s so important that we preserve our plants and our open spaces in Yorktown. We’re committed to doing that at the Town Board,” said Councilman Sergio Esposito.
All posters are on display in the Town Board Room for the month of May. The six winning posters will be displayed in the Town Court lobby during the month of June.
