Yorktown Athletes Win Bronze at Special Olympics Winter Games
March 18, 2025 – The Town of Yorktown congratulates the achievements of two local athletes and a coach who brought home a Bronze Medal from the Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025.
Coach Ellen Pikula of Yorktown Heights, along with players Mike Bub of Shrub Oak and Samantha Frederick of Yorktown Heights, are members of the North East Westchester Special Recreation’s unified (co-ed) floorball team.
The team competed from March 8th to the 16th in Italy, which hosted over 1,500 athletes from 103 countries. The Yorktown representatives, alongside their North East teammates, demonstrated exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship in the highly competitive floorball event.
The success of Ellen, Mike, and Samantha is a testament to their dedication and the unwavering support of North East, a Hawthorne-based organization that provides vital community-based therapeutic recreation programs. North East's commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities through confidence-building experiences and meaningful relationships is clearly reflected in the achievements of our local heroes.
