Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention The Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention (Action Alliance) is the nation’s public-private partnership for suicide prevention. The Action Alliance works with more than 250 national partners to advance the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. Al-Anon Meetings Membership is open to anyone who feels his or her life has been or is being deeply affected by close contact with a problem drinker. Alliance for Safe Kids ASK is a collaboration within the Yorktown community – parents, teens, educators, law enforcement, government, medical professionals, businesses, faith leaders, civic groups – aimed at providing youth with the information and skills needed to make healthy decisions while emphasizing the need for families to protect and nurture children by getting informed and getting involved. My Sisters' Place Are you or someone you know being abused or mistreated? For more than 35 years, My Sisters’ Place (MSP) has worked to end violence in intimate relationships and combat the effects of domestic violence on women and children throughout Westchester County. NAMI Westchester NAMI Westchester is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. The families and members of NAMI Westchester are here to help! We offer understanding to anyone concerned about mental illnesses and the treatment of mental illness. Go to namiwestchester.org for more information. Mental illnesses are brain disorders that are biologically based medical problems. Untreated, they can cause severe disturbances in thinking, feeling and relating. This results in substantially diminished capacity for dealing with the ordinary demands of life. Mental illness can affect persons of any age and occur in any family. They are not caused by bad parenting and not evidence of weakness of character. Nar-Anon Meetings Nar-Anon is a support group for those affected by someone else's drug addition. The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of addiction in a relative or friend. Parents Helping Parents Parents Helping Parents, Inc. supports parents and guardians who are struggling with the behavior of their teenagers or adult children. Protective Services for Adults Protective Services for Adults (PSA) is a system of services provided without regard to income under the New York State Office of Children and Family Services for persons 18 or older, who, because of a mental and/or physical impairment, are at risk of harm or are unable to meet their own needs and have no one to assist them responsibly. In New York State, local social services departments have the primary responsibility to provide services to impaired adults who may be abused, neglected or exploited and are living in the community. If the danger is not immediate, but you do not feel safe, know someone who may not be safe, or feel some form of abuse is occurring call Adult Protective Services at (914) 995-2259 or 231-2059 (Monday – Friday 9 am to 5 pm). SPARC, INC. SPARC, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been a staple of the Yorktown community since 1989. SPARC enhances the lives of people with developmental disabilities by offering a wide range of recreational, arts, music and skill based therapeutic programs for the Westchester County community, ages 5 through adulthood. Programs are offered in partnership with many local organizations, churches, senior centers and school districts. The SPARC team members are highly trained professionals which includes certified Social Workers, Special Educators, Music, Art and Recreational Therapist. Suicide Bereavement Support Group of Northern Westchester A peer/professional facilitated group for people who have lost loved ones to suicide. Support Connection Support Connection, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization established in 1996 that offers free, confidential support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Westchester County Family Justice Center Free, confidential services for victims of Domestic, Partner & Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, Stalking and Elder Abuse. Yorktown Community Help Inc Yorktown Community Help (YCH) is a Yorktown-based nonprofit that opened its doors in the 1960's. The nonprofit's primary purpose is to provide food to individuals and families who are referred to YCH. The YCH Food Pantry is open on the third Wednesday of each month. There is a thrift shop in the building where people can donate their clothing and other goods during the week on Mondays and Wednesdays. All proceeds help pay for the food that YCH distributes. Yorktown Love In Action Hidden Treasures & Donation Center Yorktown Love In Action Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to loving service to the community by assisting families in Westchester and Putnam Counties in need of temporary assistance due to unforeseen life circumstances. Yorktown Love In Action Inc. operates a large, volunteer-run donation center in Yorktown, which accepts donations of living necessities (clothing, etc.). These items are used to assist families in need in our community. Many donated items can be acquired for a minimum (nominal) donation at our donation center location. Monetary donations can be earmarked for financial assistance to local families.
