T.J. Maxx opens at Yorktown Green Shopping Center
November 7, 2024 – The Yorktown Green Shopping Center celebrated a new addition on Thursday with the opening of T.J. Maxx.
The retailer occupies part of the defunct Kmart store at the shopping center, which is undergoing a major revival. Exciting new retailers like Five Below, Michaels, and a pickleball sports center are set to open soon within the former Kmart’s footprint at 335 Downing Drive.
“Yorktown is thriving, and people are making big investments,” said Supervisor Ed Lachterman. “This brings jobs to our residents, and thanks to the mall’s owner—Oster Properties—for investing in our community.”
The shopping center began its revival in 2022 when Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace moved into a former Food Emporium that sat vacant for 10 years.
“These businesses are going to bring more people into our community to eat at our local restaurants and shop at our local stores,” said Councilman Sergio Esposito.
T.J. Maxx is a department store with more than 1,000 locations nationwide. It is known for deals on fashion and home goods.
As part of its grand opening, T.J. Maxx presented a $10,000 donation to My Brother Vinny, a Yorktown-based charity that provides furniture and housewares to formerly homeless veterans, outreach groups, shelters and families thought the Hudson Valley. Paula Miritello of My Brother Vinny said that the donation will help buy supplies. The charity has furnished more than 2,000 homes for veterans free of charge.
“We are the only charity in New York that has furnished homes for homeless veterans,” said Miritello. “We do not get enough support to cover the need, so this came at a perfect time.”
