Yorktown Pool Opens Saturday
The Brian J. Slavin Aquatic Facility will open on Saturday for the 2021 summer season.
The pool at 3800 Sunnyside St. in Shrub Oak will operate every day until September 6. For the safety of swimmers and their families, social distancing restrictions will remain in effect. On weekends and holidays, there will be two swim sessions. The early session is from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the late session is from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
“We are not letting our guard down. The parks department has a sensible plan for keeping our families safe and we ask everyone who visits our pools to respect the rules for the common good,” said Supervisor Matt Slater. “The goal is to bring as much fun back to the summer as possible and we need everyone’s help to accomplish that.”
The Slavin pool is the second to open this season. The Junior Lake Pool—closed last summer because of pandemic-related construction delays—opened on Memorial Day weekend. Sparkle Lake Beach is scheduled to open on June 19.
To give priority access to passholders, facility guests will not be permitted this season. Everyone entering must have a pool pass and must complete a brief health screening and temperature check. Facemasks must be always worn when not swimming or when sitting in a designated area.
To facilitate social distancing, the pool staff has painted social distancing areas on the pool grounds. Once all areas have been filled during a session, groups arriving must wait outside the facility until another group leaves and their area becomes available.
There will be no concession service this season. Pool patrons may bring their own food & beverages, but glass containers and alcoholic beverages are forbidden.
Details about pool passes, fees, hours and code of conduct are posted on the Town’s website.
