Long range planning deals with the ongoing review of major planning issues and the preparation of the Town Comprehensive Plans. These plans which are compiled approximately once in ten years, summarize the Town's goals and policies dealing with land use, economic development, historic preservation, infrastructure, natural resources and community facilities. Through these plans, the Town controls the directions of its development and allows for the provision of the necessary facilities and services to keep pace with population growth. It is also sets out the policies that direct the efforts at protecting resources necessary to maintain a high quality of life. The Town adopted its latest Comprehensive Plan in June of 2010. For detailed information about the Comprehensive Plan, go to Comprehensive Plan. If you have any questions or comments, please contact John Tegeder at (914) 962-6565.

Special in-depth studies are often required to determine the impact of demographic and economic trends to specific areas of concern on a more detailed, specific level than the Comprehensive Plan will provide. These studies provide the necessary depth of knowledge to develop specific action plans that respond to these areas of concern.

Current planning involves the processing and review of ongoing proposals for land development, including residential, commercial and industrial projects. The professional planner coordinates the processing of proposals between all involved agencies and prepares reviews and recommendations for the Planning Board, Town Board and Zoning Board actions. The planners also may plan and direct construction of certain public projects such as sidewalks, streetscape beautification, and bike/pedestrian trails.
